information that a suspect may be there. apparently they were following the cell phone pings of their suspect, 45-year-old steven clark. the victim identified him earlier as the person who bound, gagged and raped her and threatened to kill her with a gun and two hunting knives. apparently officers located clark at a rest stop along interstate 5 southbound. he saw the officers and jumped over a fence and was with a female companion at the time, describeas an ex-girlfriend who was with him. shs confused and did not run. instead she told officers she didn't know his history, including some offenses out of texas and thought they were going to san diego to visit some beaches there.

apparently that's what he told her. i do have calls to the contra costa sheriff's department. he's still on the the loose in southern california this morning. as soon as i hear from local detectives i'll tell you what they have to say. san francisco police are searching for another rape suspect, wanted for attacking two women in the neighborhood on 24th street over a three week period. police have released a sketch of the suspect. here it is. police also release new videos from surveillance cameras hoping someone will recognize the man. we're talking about installing more lights on the streets.

police raided this on wednesday. at the same time, agents serve in a danville home. four people connected to the pot club live. neighbors were shocked. >> they've been renting since the spring. we didn't know anything about them. agents are still searching for three other people believed to be the owner of the pot club. the attorney says the client's company is following the law. 4:35 now. one of the suspects involved in the brutal attack of an offduty firefighter in san francisco will be in court today. alyssa tejada is asking the judge to reduce bail. she was in her boyfriend's car when he was accused of running down a firefighter on thanksgiving day.

it all start when they got into a fight in the richmond district. rocket ship education has the green light to open 20 new charter schools in santa clara county. according to news, they voted to expand the program over the next four years. the schools are located in the county port communities, and students are excelling academically. but the program is controversial because the rocketshipboard is a elected. santa cruz residents are in the dark because they removed g pg& e models for their home. they brought the meters to the office to turn them in. residents say the wireless meters are causing health problems.

along 680 we have light rain. you can see here around 101 and 280, seeing a few scattered showers and a few more out here towards 580 and 680. really looks like light rain out there as we continue to move to san francisco and oakland. things are already starting to dry out. this is a weak system. not a lot of moisture with it. mainly impacting the morning. we're talking between now and 9:00. some rain at times in the south bay. around lunchtime we have clearing skies, showers moving out. high temperature today mostly in the mid-50s. come tomorrow in the seven-day forecast, you'll see breezy conditions. look at the the dry forecast into the weekend. 50s and 60s. but that rain can still be causing problems in the south bay. >> definitely. we talked about it's been a while since the rain has happened. it will be slick at the offramps especially at the highway speeds. i want to point out one area for

it is a familiar story. congress is under pressure to avoid another government shutdown. republicans and democrats have come up with a plan to keep the government financed through the end of the fiscal year. the trouble is senate majority leader harry reid says he will not allow votes on the bill until beau both parties agree on a bill to extend a payroll tax cut here. if congress cannot reach an agreement by midnight tomorrow, the government will run out of money to pay its bills. republican candidates for president square up in a debate in sioux city, iowa, tonight. the iowa caucuses are january 3rd. most candidates are campaigning heavily in that state. newt gingrich is in the lead with 40% of respondents saying mitt romney is their first choice. the debate is at 9:00 p.m. 4:45. more unrest on wall street this

week, and the roller coaster is expected to continue. for more on the that and the news before the bell, we turn to jackie deangeles live at cnbc headquarters. >> good morning. futures are higher after euro fears sparked a selloff. the dow and the nasdaq both closing down on continued uncertainly. overseas we saw the asian markets closing lower. european markets were higher. later today we get weekly jobless claims. those figures expected to show an up tick in the number of americans out of work. meantime the number of homes going into foreclosure down last month. new data showing a 3% decrease over october. foreclosures haven't declined at a fast enough pace, and that suggests we may be in for new waves of foreclosure. and jetblue has purchased 83

towards the dunbar bridge. you we see in san francisco and oakland heavy mist at times. look how quickly the moisture is moving off as the system quickly treks away from the bay area. towards lunchtime, notice in the future cast partly cloudy skies and showers shutting down. this system really doesn't have a lot to work with. we'll see much needed snow. maybe close to 4,000 feet. then a breezy pattern sets up once again. shouldn't be too strong, but it will certainly dry us out into friday. today 56 in san jose. a bit cool in livermore. to the north bay you'll see numbers in the upper 50s.

jobs' 2010 score of 97%. it is 4:39. the protester pictured on the cover of "time" magazine as person of the year is a member of occupy l.a. the woman's name is sarah mason. she was arrested with dozens of others during a protest outside of the bank of america tower in l.a. a photographer took her picture, and an artist created the "time" cover based on the image. it was design bid the same artist who created the barack obama hope posters for the 2008 election. californiases are upset about this week's aownment from governor brown next. and we're looking over here. the highway 24 commute is moving nicely. we're watching for rainy

californians are rallying against trigger cuts in the state budget. trigger cuts to education, buses and services for disabled and elderly people would begin in january. several rallies are planned statewide including in san jose, los angeles, riverside. san francisco and sacramento. the rally in san jose starts at 11:00 outside the state building. oakland police want shopping to be safer for people downtown. members of the citizens police academy alumni association will volunteer their time at the west oakland bart station to provide safety for shoppers. oakland and bart police officers will help with the effort to ensure they make it safely through their cars.

a little dog in monterey county is recoverg from surgery. we told you about frosty last week. he ran away from a foster home on the peninsula. someone reported seeing the pups run from a car window. but now officials think he was hit by the car. vets of the humane society are taking care of an eye injury, as you see here, and severe hydration. let's say frosty is in good spirits. toim to check the morning commute with mike. earlier pictures showed it was slick. >> especially off the freeways at the offramp. slow it down. it might be slippery. no slowing through that area. the rest of san jose and the south bay looking good. we have construction. the crews still on eastbound 237
